Mirius Wenda is an Indigenous West Papuan born and raised in Wamena, West Papua. He came to the United States in 2016 to study at Corban University and, due to the ongoing political situation in West Papua, chose to remain in the U.S. With a background in political science, Mirius has developed a strong perspective on the treatment of Indigenous West Papuans under Indonesian governance. Having grown up witnessing systemic marginalization, abuse of power, and human rights violations in his homeland, his experiences continue to shape his voice and advocacy.

As the Founder and Executive Director of West Papua Campaign USA, an Indigenous‑led organization dedicated to advancing human rights, environmental justice, and community empowerment for West Papuan and Pacific Islander communities, Mirius leads the organization’s strategic direction, coalition‑building efforts, and culturally grounded programs that uplift Indigenous voices and strengthen community resilience.

Mirius also represents West Papuan political and human rights interests in the United States through the Provisional Government of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP). In this role, he collaborates with advocacy partners, community leaders, and national networks to support global efforts for justice, self‑determination, and environmental protection.

With previous experience working at PICAWA and NAOPO, Mirius has contributed to civic engagement, community organizing, culturally responsive outreach, and leadership development initiatives. He brings a strong commitment to Indigenous sovereignty and the wellbeing of the West Papuan diaspora.

Outside of organizational work, Mirius values creativity, culture, and spending time in community spaces.
