Media Outreach & Cultural Wellness
“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds”
– Bob Marley
Framuel Wanimbo, an Indigenous West Papuan from the Lani tribe, serves as a Media Outreach and Cultural Wellness advocate with West Papua Campaign USA, bringing with him the creativity, resilience, and lived experience of growing up in Wamena, Papua. His understanding of justice and identity was shaped early by witnessing the mistreatment his people faced such as human rights violations, racial abuse, and the constant fear that shadows daily life under Indonesian rule.
Before joining WPC‑USA, Framuel work with Papuan Student Association of the US and Canada (IMAPA) with media team, helping document community events through video and photography and strengthening cultural connection among Papuan students in the diaspora. He later studied media arts at Corban University for two years, where he learned foundational skills in communication, filmmaking, and visual storytelling tools he now uses to amplify Papuan voices and preserve cultural identity. Framuel’s commitment to advocacy is deeply personal: he grew up seeing injustice and mistreatments. One of the experiences that marked him most was seeing his own mother unable to receive proper medical treatment in a public hospital, where unexplained deaths and mistreatment by Indonesian medical staff created fear and distrust among Papuans. These memories fuel his determination to speak out.
Today, Framuel channels his creativity into purpose, using media to tell the stories the world rarely sees and to protect the culture, land, and dignity of his people. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, making music, watching films, creating videos, and playing soccer.
Through his work with WPC‑USA, Framuel hopes to help build a future where West Papuans can live without fear in their own land, where their culture thrives, and where their struggle is recognized as part of our shared human responsibility to defend justice and human rights for all.
