The Indigenous people of West Papua have long endured human rights abuses, environmental degradation, and cultural suppression.
Since the 1960’s, the Indonesian government has forcefully
occupied and violently subdued the Indigenous people of West Papua. Under
Indonesian administration, Indigenous West Papuans do not have access to
self-government or decision-making, freedom of expression, right to territorial
or natural resources, annexation referendum, political autonomy, or governing
powers over new provinces.

We engage with policymakers, media outlets, and the public to raise awareness about the situation in West Papua and advocate for change. We provide educational resources and foster dialogue to promote a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
To all who believe in human dignity and the right to self-determination:
The Indigenous peoples of West Papua descendants of Melanesian heritage and stewards of one of the world’s richest ecosystems have endured over half a century of occupation, cultural erasure, and systemic violence under Indonesian rule. From the coerced 1969 “Act of Free Choice” to ongoing military crackdowns, the Papuan people have been denied their voice, their land, and their future
Why It Matters
• Over 250 tribal nations and 300 languages are at risk of extinction due to forced assimilation and displacement
• Peaceful expressions of identity like flying the Morning Star flag or singing traditional songs are criminalized
• Natural resources are extracted while Indigenous communities remain impoverished and excluded from decision making
• Human rights abuses, including torture, arbitrary arrests, and sexual violence, continue with impunity
What You Can Do
• Share this message with your networks your family, your friends, your faith communities, and your elected officials
• Urge your government to support international monitoring and a legitimate referendum for West Papuan self-determination
• Amplify Indigenous voices and support organizations West Papua Campaign USA
• Recognize West Papuans as part of the global Black and Indigenous diaspora, linked to Africa and Oceania through ancestral ties
This is not just a regional issue it is a global moral imperative. The cry for freedom in West Papua is a cry for justice, for cultural survival, and for the right to live with dignity on ancestral land.
